The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Lakhimpur, Azad, was established as the 2nd phase DIET under to the goal of the National Policy of Education, 1986 to play a meaningful role in the state education system. However, till now due to various reasons, DIET, Lakhimpur, has not been able to reach the expected goals. The RTE Act, 2009 has brought an urgent need to reformulate the vision of this institution so that it can contribute to fulfilling the provisions contained in the act in the matters relating to impart of education to perspective teachers, continuous teacher professional development, school support and improvement. On these expectations, DIET, Lakhimpur has to be well equipped during the 5 years perspective plan (2012-17).
DIET, Lakhimpur, has itself proposed some specific visions for overall development of school education in Elementary and Secondary Education of the District. The main institutional focus areas of DIET, Lakhimpur, Azad are –
